About

Spiral Tower Ludogenics a group of independent game developers with different backgrounds and philosophies, trying our best to resist settled answers to the problems presented by videogames. We hold that one should not condemn what one already dislikes and alibi what one already likes, and that artistic practice should pose problems rather than rush to resolution. To this end, we make games and write essays reflecting on our game development efforts.

What is the Spiral Tower?

Like architecture, videogames are collaborative efforts that take months or years of careful planning, on the part of both artists and engineers, exhibiting other artworks as well as standing as artworks in their own right. It is no wonder that architecture and videogames have both been described as Gesamtkunstwerks — total works of art, synthesizing all other artforms of the age. Therefore, videogames and architecture share certain aesthetic problems. A number of buildings can be described as Spiral Towers: the Tower of Babel, the Spiral Minaret, Tatlin's Tower, the Guggenheim Museum. We will explore the connections between videogames and these towers in a series of essays:
